This is the question I got asked more than any other: was Coachella VIP worth it? We did 3-day VIP for Weekend 2, and I have a real answer for you, not a hype answer. So here is exactly what VIP gets you, what it does not, and whether I would spend the money again.
First, what VIP is not
Let's clear this up, because it surprises people. Coachella VIP does not put you front and center at the main stage. It is not a backstage pass and it is not a shortcut to the barricade for the headliners. If your dream is to be in the front row for a specific act, VIP is not the thing that does that.
Once I let go of that expectation, I actually enjoyed VIP a lot more for what it really is.
What VIP actually gets you
Over a long weekend in the desert, VIP buys one thing that matters more than almost anything else: comfort. Specifically:
- Better bathrooms. If you have ever been to a festival, you understand why this alone is tempting.
- More shade and places to sit. After hours in the sun, a shaded spot to actually rest is priceless.
- Dedicated food and drink vendors, usually with shorter lines than the general areas.
- Room to breathe. A calmer space to reset between artists so you can last all three days.
So, was it worth it?
For us, honestly, yes. Here is my reasoning. Coachella is a marathon, three long days of walking miles in desert heat. By day two, the thing that keeps you happy and functioning is not being closer to a stage, it is having somewhere comfortable to reset. VIP gave us that, and it genuinely made the weekend more enjoyable and more sustainable.
Would I say VIP is worth it for everyone? No. If you are young, on a tight budget, going for one day, or you truly only care about being as close to the stage as possible, general admission is the smarter spend. But if you are doing all three days and you value comfort, shade, and better facilities over front-row access, VIP earns its keep.
How to decide for yourself
- Doing all three days? VIP comfort adds up. One day only? Probably skip it.
- Do you overheat or need breaks? The shade and seating are the real value.
- Front row your priority? Save the money, VIP will not get you there.
- Traveling and want a smoother experience overall? VIP pairs well with a relaxed trip plan.
