Why We Chose Coachella Weekend 2 (Not Weekend 1)

Weekend 2 was the right call for us. Here is why.

One of the first decisions you make when you commit to Coachella is which weekend to go. And the good news, the part that makes this decision so much easier, is that the lineup is the exact same both weekends. Same headliners, same acts, same stages. So you are really choosing based on price, crowds, timing, and vibe, not the music. We went Weekend 2, and I would do it again.

The lineup is identical, so it comes down to logistics

Coachella runs across two weekends with the same lineup. Once you know that, the pressure is off. You are not missing your favorite artist by picking one over the other. That freed us up to choose the weekend that fit our budget and our schedule.

Why Weekend 2 won for us

The tradeoff: Weekend 1 sometimes gets the buzzier "first look" moments and surprise energy. If being part of the opening weekend matters to you, that is a real reason to pick it. For us, the value and calmer vibe of Weekend 2 mattered more.

How we set the trip up

We flew in Thursday and flew home Monday, four nights total, so we had a calm arrival and an unrushed departure instead of sprinting off a plane and back onto one. We also paid things off in stages, tickets first, then flights and hotel, which kept a big trip from feeling overwhelming. If you want the full breakdown, I put it all in our Coachella planning guide.

So which weekend should you pick?

  • Pick Weekend 2 if you want a slightly lower price, a bit more space, and a calmer feel.
  • Pick Weekend 1 if you want the opening-weekend buzz and do not mind bigger crowds.
  • Either way, you get the same lineup, so you really cannot go wrong.
