Universal Epic Universe With Kids: A First-Timer's Guide

Universal's Epic Universe is the newest, shiniest thing in Orlando, and a year in, it is still the question I get most from visiting families: is it actually doable with little kids? The honest answer is yes, with a plan. Epic leans thrilling, so a few of the headline rides are for bigger kids, but there is genuinely a lot for little ones if you know where to look. Here is how I would tackle it.

Epic Universe is built around Celestial Park, the central hub, with four themed worlds branching off it:

The best rides for little ones

Height reality check: a lot of the big rides sit at 40 inches (Mario Kart, Battle at the Ministry, Hiccup's Wing Gliders, Fyre Drill, Curse of the Werewolf) and the thrill rides at 48 inches (Stardust Racers, Monsters Unchained, Dragon Racer's Rally). Measure your kids in the shoes they'll wear in the park, and if a ride is a close call, do it in the morning before the normal daily spine compression shrinks them a hair.

How to do it without meltdowns

  • Get there early. Arrive 15 to 30 minutes before opening and head to the most popular rides first, especially if you have Early Park Admission as a resort guest.
  • Plan a midday break. The 1 to 4 pm heat is brutal in summer. Build in a nap or pool break and come back for the evening.
  • Use Rider Switch. For the big rides your little one can't do, one adult waits with the kid while the other rides, then you swap without waiting in line twice.
  • Pack for the heat. A stroller fan, cooling towels, refillable water, and a portable charger are the difference between a great day and a rough one.

Is Epic Universe good for toddlers?

It leans thrilling, but there is plenty for little ones: the Constellation Carousel (no height limit), the Astronomica splash zone, Yoshi's Adventure, Fyre Drill, and the Isle of Berk playground. Just plan around the height requirements.

What are the height requirements?

Many family rides are 40 inches, and the bigger thrill rides are 48 inches. The carousel has no requirement. Measure your child in the shoes they'll wear.

How do I ride the big rides if my kid is too small?

Use Rider Switch. One adult stays with your child while the other rides, then you swap, no waiting in line twice.

Should we skip any land with young kids?

Dark Universe is the spooky, monster-themed land and can be intense for little ones. Super Nintendo World and Isle of Berk are the most kid-friendly.
